Governance

As vice president of finance, Sarah supervises the general accounting staff and is responsible for budget functions, financial reporting, verifying the accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy of fund transactions and balances, and managing the annual audit and tax preparation process. Sarah first joined our parent foundation, Community Foundation Silicon Valley, in 2005 and most recently was Controller for Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Sarah majored in finance and holds a bachelor of science in commerce from Santa Clara University. She began her career in accounting at the age of 17 when she began working for her father to help him run the books for the family business. After graduating in 2003, she decided to explore the nonprofit sector and joined the Saint Francis Foundation as an administrative assistant. While at the Saint Francis Foundation, she discovered how much she enjoyed working in the nonprofit world.

Jose Iglesias is an experienced executive in the software and services business’ having held a wide variety of positions including general management of an over half a billion dollar business, growing businesses profitably, managed off-shoring initiatives, product and portfolio management, and product & services development among others. Iglesias was an executive at Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) Software division Consulting & Education Services where he led a team of Chief Technology Officers, Content Developers, and Marketing to develop a winning strategy to successfully turn the business around into profitability while ensuring high customer satisfaction.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in computer science, both from Stanford University. Iglesias spent three years on the Board of Directors for the Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV) organization, before transitioning onto its Advisory Board, and he currently serves on the Charter School Committee for The Foundation for Hispanic Education. He is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Stanford Alumni Association.

Beatríz (Betty) Jiménez is a Senior Physical Microchip Designer at Intel Corporation with more than 20 years of experience on high-speed analog, digital and mixed circuits. Currently, she works on a team-base environment where she leads, supervises, and supports other peers on technical issues,  floor-plans the complete hierarchical layout and delegates tasks maintaining a goal-based schedule. She first began her work after college in the tech industry working at the largest data center in Latin America at Bancomer as a Technical Support for IBM Mainframes Operating Systems (MVS) in Mexico City. Soon after, she immigrated to the United States and started working at Intel ever since. She has received different awards including few Intel Divisional Awards for delivering different microchip layouts.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science with a focus in Computer Science from Universidad National Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM) with honors. Betty went back to school to study Physical Design at the Institute of Business and Technology (IBT). She is currently a member of the Intel Latinx network and volunteers her time helping women in homeless shelters. Betty believes that higher education, continuous self-directed learning, persistence, and hard work are imperative to be successful in today’s Technology Industry.

Eva Blanco Masias is Vice President of Enrollment Management at Santa Clara University. She has been with Santa Clara for 16 years and leads admission and recruitment efforts of first-year and transfer students, including all marketing and technology strategies. Under her leadership, the University has experienced a record-high number of applications and has expanded its national and international reputation. The student body – which is now over 50% of students of color and over 16% Latino - boasts the highest academic profile in its history and one of the highest retention and graduation rates in the country.

Prior to Santa Clara, Eva held a number of strategic and leadership positions at media companies such as Fox Latin American Channel, USA Networks Latin America, Discovery Networks Latin America, and El Sitio, one of the first internet portals in Latin America.

Eva has served on several non-profit boards and committees in Los Angeles, Miami, and San Jose. More recently, she was President of the National Catholic College Admission Association, Advisory Committee Member for the California College Guidance Initiative, and inaugural Chair of the Yale Latino Alumni Association. Eva, a first-generation college student, holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale and a master's in education administration from

John is part of the fourth generation of Sobrato family members working within the Silicon Valley. For nearly 10 years, John worked at both the Latino College Preparatory Academy and the Foundation for Hispanic Education, serving as both a teacher and administrator over that period. 

Outside of his work in the world of education, he is increasingly involved in the non-profit sphere. John serves as the current Board Chair of the SEAL Organization, is a Board Member of Sobrato Philanthropies, and an Advisory Board Member of the Ignatian Center at Santa Clara University. 

John graduated from Santa Clara University in 2010 with a double major in History and Political Science, and earned his Single Subject Teaching Credential from SCU's Department of Education, Counseling, and Psychology in 2011. He is deeply committed to continuing the Sobrato family’s leadership on education issues as well as increasing equity and access to opportunities for communities throughout the Bay Area.

Werner Zurcher is an experienced executive in the software and services businesses. Zurcher has held a wide variety of positions, growing businesses profitably, managing organizations and building product lines in computing hardware, software, as well as IT services.  Zurcher led sales and marketing teams at Sun Microsystems  and was a Managing Vice President at Gartner Research. Zurcher held positions in sales at Hewlett-Packard, marketing and systems engineering at Sun, and product line management as well as in the CTO organization at Veritas Software and Symantec before his group management assignments.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and completed the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in computer science, both from Brown University. Zurcher has spent five years tutoring Hispanic and other students in East Palo Alto, and has parented children that attended schools serving diverse student bodies, including mostly international students in Europe as well as mostly Hispanic students in the U.S. He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), The Computer Society, and the Brown Alumni Association.
